Wharton’s Real Estate Finance students visited New York City this October for a day of meetings with commercial real estate industry leaders, hosted by Dr. Sam Chandan and Real Estate Econometrics.
Dr. Sam Chandan, President and Chief Economist of Real Estate Econometrics and adjunct professor of real estate at the Wharton School, hosted thirty of Wharton's Real Estate Finance students in New York City this October for a day of "unplugged" discussions with commercial real estate industry leaders.
The itinerary for the day-long event, held at the Penn Club of New York, included lively discussions led by Robert White, President and Founder of Real Capital Analytics; Studley Executive Managing Director Woody Heller; CBRE Executive Managing Director Matt Van Buren; and, Vornado Senior Vice President Ben Schall.
Banking executives, including M&T Bank's Gino Martocci, Madison Realty Capital's Gideon Gil, and Calyon/Crédit Agricole's Jason Chrein offered their perspectives on credit market conditions and the role of bank and non-bank lenders in addressing the liquidity crisis.
Matt Bruck, Managing Director for RICS Americas, described opportunities for young leaders to become involved in the real estate industry and RICS' role in the increasingly global real estate market.
Amongst the day's highlights, Peter Ruggiero, Design Partner at Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM), traveled from Chicago for a lunchtime presentation on his work in designing the award-winning 7 World Trade Center and SOM's 1 World Trade Center (formerly, the Freedom Tower) design.
